A New Year of Small Improvements and Big Purpose

A new year in martial arts isn’t about flipping a switch or suddenly becoming someone new. In Tang Soo Do, growth has always been about steady progress, reflection, and purpose—and that’s exactly how we’re stepping into this year.

As a school, we’re setting two resolutions for the year ahead:
one small and consistent, and one bold and far-reaching.

Our Minor Resolution: Improve One Thing Each Month

In Tang Soo Do, we don’t chase perfection—we chase progress.

This year, our minor resolution is simple by design:
improve one thing each month.

That “one thing” might be:

  • A sharper basic technique
  • Better focus during class
  • Stronger etiquette and respect
  • Improved flexibility or conditioning
  • A more positive mindset when things get hard

When we focus on just one small improvement at a time, we avoid overwhelm and build momentum. Much like refining a single stance or strike, these small adjustments compound over time. Twelve months from now, those small improvements won’t feel small at all.

A common Tang Soo Do analogy reminds us:
A mountain is not climbed in one step—but every step still matters.

We encourage our students to reflect monthly and ask:

“What is one thing I can do a little better than last month?”

That question alone can change everything.

Our Major Resolution: Spreading Tang Soo Do Throughout Our Community

While our minor resolution focuses inward, our major resolution looks outward.

This year, our goal is to spread Tang Soo Do throughout Owosso, Corunna, and all of Shiawassee County.

Not just as a martial art—but as a way of life.

Tang Soo Do teaches discipline, respect, self-control, confidence, and perseverance. These values don’t stop at the edge of the mat. They belong in our homes, our schools, and our community.

By growing our school and welcoming new students, we aren’t just teaching kicks and punches—we’re helping build:

  • More confident kids
  • More disciplined teens
  • More resilient adults
  • A stronger, more respectful community

Every student who walks through our doors becomes part of that mission. Every family that supports their training helps us share these values further.

Moving Forward Together

This year isn’t about rushing ahead—it’s about walking the path with intention.

By committing to small monthly improvements and a big community-focused purpose, we’re honoring the heart of Tang Soo Do:
personal growth in service of something greater than ourselves.

Thank you for being part of our dojang, our journey, and our shared mission. We’re excited to grow—one step, one improvement, and one student at a time.

Here’s to a strong, focused, and meaningful year ahead. 🥋
